TOP 10 Ways to Balance Work and Home Life

Did you remember to send out that email?

Did you remember to order groceries so you can prepare a meal for yourself?

What about that meeting at 11, and that laundry you have to do so that the kids can have something clean to wear to school?

Our lives have become complex as our responsibilities grow, and we are expected to be efficient in any field.

The problem is, you don't really have a choice. There are bills to pay, and a family that needs time, too.

So, just how are you going to do it all? Whether you deem it as a useful skill or not, being organised and efficient is the only way you can have a lot of good days where things go according to how you want them to.

Here are the top 10 Reasons to balance work and life.

1) Plan out your day every day

There is a lot to do every single day. You have work, you have family members who need your time, you have to make sure the house is in working order...and then there is the food you need to prepare and the chores that need to be done.

The only way to accomplish all these goals is by planning out everything in advance.
Write down your schedule if you have to, starting out with what time you will wake up, which tasks you can complete by multi-tasking, and how you are going to find time to take small breaks.

Remember the timetables you had in school that told you when you had which class?
Turns out you never had to stop using them. And as adults, you need them more than ever.

2) Prioritise

The next thing to do is to prioritise which task needs to be completed first. If there are tasks that need to be finished on a deadline, do it first. Your job may depend on it. On the other hand, if there is a task at home, or maybe an appointment you need to go to, do it first, especially if it is with your doctor. Your health is a priority, too.

3) Make a list

Life can get busy really fast, and chances are you may forget to do some tasks and end up facing the repercussions for it.
It is important to carry a notebook and list all the tasks that needs to be completed. It is better to write it down or type it in a notes app on your phone and keep a reminder to check it during the middle of the day and at the end to make sure all the tasks were completed or not.

4) Don't push yourself for perfection

As much as we like to, things don't always go according to plan. Some days they will, other times they will not.
Be prepared for this and don't give yourself a hard time for it. Give important tasks your all, but don't stress yourself to make it perfect.

5) Learn to say no

As much as you would like to, it isn't possible to do everything in one day. You may already have your hands full with a multitude of tasks. The last thing you want is for someone to pile on more tasks for you.
Learn to say no to them. Choose the tasks that will help and benefit you and do them. You can do it all, but you don't need to and risk leaving other tasks incomplete.
Also, learn to say no to activities that will take a lot of time away from your responsibilities and aren't productive at all.
When there are deadlines to meet, the fewer distractions, the better.

6) Take a break

You have a lot of work to do, but you also need a break if you want to avoid a burnout. The worst thing that can happen when you have so much to do is for you to fall sick.
Remember to take care of yourself and if you're too busy, keep a reminder of when you should eat and drink so you don't get caught up so much in your work that you forget about your health.

7) Ask for help

When there is a lot to do, learn to be okay with designating tasks to people around you. Especially if these tasks involve your home. Ask your family to help or hire help with household chores.
At work, too, ask your colleagues to help with the project that must be submitted on time.

8) Avoid distractions

There is a lot of work to do and taking a break is fine but it is when you decide to check out the latest funny video, and then another one after that, that is when your schedule goes off the rails.

Try to complete your work or an errand on time and then indulge yourself in your free time.

9) Don't bring your work home. And don't bring your home problems to work

With careful planning, you should be able to complete your work in the office and your household chores and find the time with your family.

Keep these two areas of your life separate. After a hard day at work, your family wants to spend time with you, and even though you may want to work, it just isn't fair to them.

Alternatively, your home and family issues shouldn't make their way into your work life. Mixing these two, will muddle things up and prevent you from fulfilling your daily tasks.

10) Make better use of technology to get work done efficiently

Now that we have hundreds of apps, why not make use of them to make your life easier?

Use grocery apps to schedule your deliveries. Some of them automatically send essential items on a monthly basis, too.

Use apps to set reminders for your tasks.

There are apps to help you exercise, plan your meals, and even arrange transport.

If you are too tired to cook, there are dozens of food delivery apps you can use to order takeout.

There are apps where you can hire help, too, even for just a day.

Certain apps come in handy when you have to work online, too.

Explore apps online to find what works for you and what can make your life easier.
