Resources for Writers

You are a writer and you can’t do it alone. Here are a couple of things you should consider doing. These are must-have apps on your phone or computer.

Dictionary.com

By far the best dictionary app there is because of its easy navigation, example settings, thesaurus, and learner’s section that helps you simplify and memorize the definition.

Grammarly

The best app to have when revising your work. While writing, you may be simply typing whatever comes to your mind without being concerned about spelling errors and grammar.

Grammarly will come to your rescue when you are ready to submit your work and even tell you how engaging your writing is and measure clarity.

On Writing by Stephen King

If you ever wanted a glimpse into a famous writer’s journey, this is the book to read.

From the master of horror himself, this memoir will give you an insight into the world of a writer and how setbacks are part and parcel of this journey. The important thing is to pick yourself up just like Stephen King did. We may not be able to write like him but we surely can learn to persevere.

Writer’s Bureau

Being a writer isn’t all that easy and you will require some training. There are a lot of courses out there but Writer’s Bureau is one of those courses which allows flexibility.

You get your course mailed to you and are assigned a tutor who will provide helpful advice and correct your assignments.

If you are into fiction writing, I would recommend getting the ‘Writing for Children' course mainly because it will cover all aspects of writing, from fiction to poetry and to writing articles.

This course will help you decide, if you haven’t already, which field of writing you should pursue and where your strengths lie.

As a former student, I can confirm this course is well-structured and the advice I received was very helpful.

London School of Journalism

If you’ve decided you want to write articles and features for a living, choose a course with the London School of Journalism.

There are thousands of courses on Journalism, so why this one?

For one thing, it will actually teach you how to look for stories and generate ideas. It will test your knowledge with assignments that will make sure you’ve absorbed and comprehended the lesson.

As a former student, I can confirm that I did learn a lot about how the world of journalism works as well as learned new methods to improve my writing style in article writing.
