Top 10 Things to Like About Bridgerton Season 3

The Bridgerton Season has begun.

Season 3 has been released on Netflix but fans of the series will be disappointed to know that they only get the first four episodes and have to wait until June to see the rest of the episodes.

So far, fans have enjoyed the Polin (Amalgamation of  Penelope and Colin) chemistry and reviewers have found it to be an improvement over season 2.

Here are the Top 10 Things to love about Bridgerton Season 3

1.Stayed true to the books

Fans of the Bridgerton book series were disappointed by Season 2 as they found the best parts of the book chopped out. There were other problems with Season 2 as well, mostly with the lack of screen time the couple get.

But Season 3 redeems the series tremendously by following the book ROMANCING MR BRIDGERTON closely.

All the important scenes in the novel are present in the book, including the steamy carriage scene.

2. Nicola Coughlan gives life to Penelope

Penelope is a complex character. She is a wallflower, overweight and looked down upon her rivals in the ton as well as her family who underestimate her. But beneath that timid exterior, she is a witty and clever young woman.

In fact, she is Lady Whistledown, the gossip columnist everyone is dying to know the identity of.

The actress Nicola Coughlan who plays the character, does it so effortlessly. You can see her shyness, her shrewdness and even her sweet friendship so plainly.

Nicola Coughlan is truly the heart of Season 3.

3. More screen time for the main couple

This time around, we finally get to learn more about the couple. While the secondary characters are given screen time, more is given to Colin and Penelope and their budding love.

Season 2 clearly did not do justice to Anthony and Kate, considering they were based on the most popular book, THE VISCOUNT WHO LOVED ME, in the series.

4. Cressida is actually a full-rounded character

In the books, Cressida Cowper is actually insufferable, and a rival to the main characters in the book. You really want to hate her since she has no redeeming qualities.

Show Cressida is actually quite decent, especially in Season 3. She tries hard to be friends with Eloise and even takes her advice regarding keeping friendships and not being cruel to Penelope even though she had the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Part 2 will show if she will sustain those qualities.

5. The Featheringtons are funny instead of insufferable

The last season focused a little too much on the Featheringtons. Their storyline was intrusive and boring.

In Season 3, with most of their problems sorted out, the Featheringtons are given a humorous angle. It is actually a little entertaining to watch them and endearing to see Penelope’s mother actually be happy for her.

6. Lady Violet shown respect by the new Viscountess Kathani

Most shows quickly wrap up the parents’ storyline after the focus shifts on the couple. But it is refreshing to see Kate, aka Kathani, genuinely care for her mother-in-law, something that is absent in most romance shows.

In the first episode, we see Kate ask Lady Violet to stay on and later, even speaks to her husband Anthony to let his mother stay on for a longer and continue to be the Viscountess.

7. Lady Violet may be getting a love interest in Lord Marcus Anderson

While she still has five more children to help settle, it is interesting to see Lady Violet get more to do apart from keeping vigilance on her children.

And her love interest may be none other than the interfering Lady Danbury’s brother Lord Marcus Anderson.

The two have shared a quick and interesting rapport in the first part of season 3. Part Two will show if that angle will lead to anywhere.

8. Francesca is actually an endearing character

Initially played by Ruby Stokes, the character is now played by Hannah Dodd. The reason for replacement was cited as scheduling conflicts but chances are that the producers were probably looking for a more grown up Francesca because soon enough, she will be heading for her own romance.

Francesca Bridgerton gets her romantic happily-ever-after in the book When he was Wicked

Those who read the book, know that Francesca becomes a widow at a very young age and even miscarries. But fear not gentle reader because there has been someone in Francesca’s life all this time who has been secretly in love with her.

So it makes sense that a more mature looking Francesca was sought out who could play out all these turbulent events.

Hannah Dodd does a good enough job to play the reclusive Francesca who prefers playing the piano and sitting quietly with her thoughts than attend balls in fancy dresses.

But she is also practical and knows she needs to get married soon. Lucky for her, she is chosen as Diamond of the Season in Season 3.

9. Although not enough family bonding, focus is on friendships

The Bridgerton books were all about family love. The bond between parents and siblings was quite evident, especially in The Viscount Who Loved Me where we also got to see the bonding between Kate and Edwina, her sister. There was also a sweet moment between Kate and her stepmother.

While the TV show hardly dwells on family bonding, at least there is much focus on friendships.

The friendships between the characters are sweet and they all genuinely help each other. Take for example Penelope and Eloise in the first season, or Penelope and Colin, and even Eloise and Cressida in Season 3 Part One.

People in the ton also try to help each other, like Lady Danbury, even though there are many who gossip and spread rumors about each other.

Nevertheless, it is nice to see people with contrasting personalities come together and take each other’s advice.

10.  Penelope may not have fought for Colin but she does for Lord Debling

Why is this important?

Penelope has always been in love with Colin ever since she was a young girl. Even though she was always warmly welcomed by the Bridgertons, somewhere, deep inside, she knew Colin would never be interested in her. He was a rake after all and very handsome while she considered herself to be overweight and dressed in colors that did nothing to enhance her beauty.

She has tried several times to get her mother to change her dress color by having Lady Whistledown ridicule the color of her dress. Of course, she is Lady Whistledown herself so her little ploy doesn’t work.

In the Season 2 finale, she overhears Colin brag to his friends how he would never court Penelope. Hurt, she does not speak to Colin nor reply to his letters, But she has also come to realize that Colin will never love her back.

And so she moves on, especially because the idea of living with her mother for the rest of her life isn’t that appealing to her.

When she finally realizes she can be herself around Lord Debling and that he actually finds her passion for books, attractive, she realizes she can finally settle down.

Unfortunately, Cressida is desperate to settle down too and has set her sights on Lord Debling too. Lord Debling is wealthy and travels all the time which means his spouse will have to have her own interests and enjoy privacy.

Penelope tries her very best to keep Lord Debling’s attention on her, even if it means that she has to fake her tastes.

But Penelope is Penelope and she comes clean to him in th every next scene.

Penelope fights for Lord Debling because he accepts her for who she is. Colin, according to her, will never love her and she believes he doesn’t find her attractive or has an interest in her interests.

It was interesting to see Penelope evolve and understand that she deserves love and happiness as well.
