Why write?

So you decided to become a writer. Well, so did I.

Here are some of the reasons that prompted me to pursue writing. Maybe they are yours as well?

Writing is supposed to be cathartic

Get all your emotions down in writing. Express yourself in ways you wouldn't be able to do so otherwise.

You want to see your name in print

Who doesn't, right? We all dream of achieving fame but only a few of us have the perseverance, and let's face it, a lot of luck to actually become well-known. Now imagine writing and creating something and then having your name on it for the whole world to see. What a proud moment!

You have a story to tell

Everyone has that one great story inside of them just waiting to be written. We've all read and heard dozens of stories when we were kids. If you ever felt that you could be a creator of a story too and are passionate about it, then you should pursue writing. I certainly thought I had many stories to tell.

You are good at writing

Maybe one day you wrote something; an essay, a personal note or even a short story, and someone told you that your writing was really good and that you have a way with words. Maybe that compliment came from a person you admired and respected a lot.

The more you read what you wrote, the more you realized that perhaps you did write something that not everyone is capable of. Push aside that modesty and be honest with yourself and your writing.

Chances are you have a gift not everyone possesses.

Well, go ahead and shoot for the moon. Who knows, you may land among the stars at least.
