Every place has a history and many countries have gone to great lengths to preserve historic monuments for future generations to learn, and appreciate this incredible form of art.

There may be seven wonders of the world but there are hundreds of landmarks that need to be seen.

1) Taj Mahal in Agra, India

The Taj Mahal was once regarded as a symbol of love. It was after all, built on the orders of Shah Jahan when he lost his wife Mumtaz Mahal after she gave birth to their fourteenth child.
The monument was constructed and completed in 1653.
Since then, the Taj Mahal is seen as a symbol of India as well and attacts thousands of tourists every year.




2) Colosseum in Rome, Italy

The Colosseum is an elliptical amphitheatre that was constructed and completed in 80 AD under the successor of Vespasian, Titus.
For a long time, the Colosseum was used by gladiators, and by performers. The Colosseum could seat up to 80,000 spectators.
However, over the years, the exterior has seen damage and can no longer be used for public events, although it has been used as backdrops for concerts.

The Colosseum is still a sight to behold and is a symbol of Roman History.




3) Burj Khalifa in Dubai, UAE

The tallest building in the world is a sight to behold. Construction began in 2004 and was completed in 2009.
The tower was initially called Burj Dubai, but after the developers ran out of money, the then ruler of UAE, Sheikh Khalifa provided the required funds to finish the project. To show their gratitude, the developers changed the name to Burj Khalifa.

The tower has won several awards over the years and has set various world records including Building with most floors, and World’s Highest New Year Fireworks Display.

Burj Khalifa is visible in the skyline of different emirates as well.




4) Louvre Museum in Paris, France

Think art and no doubt you will also think about the world’s most popular art museum. Built sometime around the late 12th Century to Early 13th Century, the Louvre houses some of the most important and well-known artwork from different eras.
One of the most popular paintings, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci can be found at the Louvre Museum.



5) Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada

Canada’s oldest national park is a sight to behold. There are glacial lakes and adventures to take on when you visit the Banff National Park. The serene mountain and lakes scenery is sure to be a peaceful escapade for anyone looking for a vacation.




6) Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England

This prehistoric monument was constructed sometime between 3000 BC to 2000 BC. The monument is man-made and consists of large stones set in a circle. There have been several theories about who built the Stonehenge with one theory being about Merlin the Wizard building it.



7) Waitomo Glowworm Caves in Waitomo, North Island of New Zealand

Visting the Waitomo Glowworm Caves is like taking a trip to another world. The caves are famous for its abundance of glowworms, the stalactites and stalagmites formations and the river.
The cave formation dates back to 30 million years ago and is one of the most popular destination to visit in New Zealand.




8) St. Mark’s Square in Venice, Italy

Also known as Piazza San Marco, this drawing room of Europe is one of the most popular landmarks in Venice as it is used as a public square.

You can find the St Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, and St Mark’s Clock Tower. The magnificent architecture can be admired by taking a walk down to St. Mark’s Square or by spending time in the cafes nearby.




9) Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany

One of the best known landmarks of Germany, this neoclassical monument was built in the 18th Century. It used to be a symbol of Berlin’s Cold War division into East and West but ever since the fall of the Wall, has become a symbol of a unified Germany.




10) Great Wall of China in Beijing, China

The Great Wall of China is actually a series of fortifications built across several Chinese States. The Wall has been thought to be built in the 7th Century. This 10,000 kilometers wall was once thought to be visible from space but has since then been thought to be a myth.
