Top 10 Things to do at the Beach

It's almost summer. And even if it isn't where you live, what's stopping you from enjoying your time at the beach?

Studies show that going to the beach can actually be very relaxing for you. In fact, sitting near the water and staring into the ocean can put you in a relaxed, meditative state.

Apart from that, going to the beach means you will be spending time outdoors and exposing yourself to direct sunlight. Which means you are bound to get your dose of Vitamin D.

But just what can you do at the beach?

Here are some ways you can enjoy your time at the beach.

1) Build Sandcastles. Who said this is just for kids? It's time to show off your sand sculpting skills by making a big sandcastle. Or better yet, make a sculpture of a person or mermaid.
In case your sand castle making skills are lacking, try using buckets and moulds to decorate your castle.

2) Sunbathing. After a hectic week of work and meeting deadlines, wouldn't you rather lie in and do nothing?
The benefits of laying about outside is that even though there may be insects and the sand may get everywhere on you and your clothes, you get a free dose of Vitamin D.
So, get a nice blanket and lay out in the sun to get a nice tan and Vitamin D.

3) Playing Sports. Beach Volleyball and playing Frisbee are two of the most popular games to play on the beach.
Just make sure you don't throw your ball or Frisbee too far into the ocean.

4) Swimming. The water is right there for you to take a dip in when you are feeling too hot.
Of course, do heed the lifeguards' warning should they disallow swimming if the sea is rough.
On a perfect day, a dip in the water is refreshing, and even if you don't feel like taking a swim, you can walk barefoot near the waves and let the water cool your feet.

5) Jetski or Surf. There's a lot of fun activities you can do in the water. Surfing is a popular water sport, but in case you are unable to surf or don't have a surfboard, most beaches rent out jetskis. Even if you don't know how to ride one alone, some of the rental companies even offer guides who will take you for a spin whole you sit at the back and enjoy the ride.

6) Go for a jog near the waves. There's nothing better than getting some exercise done at the beach. You can do yoga, take your dog for a run, and go for a jog near the waves.

7) Read a book. You're at the beach, and you can finally afford some quiet time to yourself. Beaches are supposed to be for relaxation, right?
Get a book that you have been trying to find time to read but haven't been able to, and indulge in some me time.
There's nothing as serene as reading a good book while the waves crash in the distance.

8) Collect Seashells. As long as it is legal to do so where you live. Yes, some countries do not allow you to pick Seashells, but for those who do, why not go on a hunt to find the perfect shell to add to your collection. You will find a myriad of shells in different shapes and colours.

9) Picnic. Beaches can be great picnic spots. Just spread a blanket, and you're off to having your favourite food near the sea. Just make sure you don't litter and use the trash bins provided.

10) Kite Flying. On a perfectly breezy day, why not try your hand at kite flying. It is the easiest entertainment you can have provided you know how to fly one kite.
Some beaches even have stalls where you can buy a kite.
Flying kites can be a wonderful way to enjoy your time at the beach with your family.

These are just some of the things you can do to enjoy your time at the beach.
Remember to have fun at the beach.
