21 Seasons, and I still can't stop watching Family Guy.
And it isn't because I have been watching from the very beginning or there isn't anything worthwhile watching nowadays.
Okay, the latter may be true. Most of the dramas coming out nowadays are more about trying to appease certain groups than about stories. This is a thought that resonated with many that believe the "Woke" culture has effectively ruined fictional movies and TV shows.
Family Guy has managed to retain its humor throughout these years. Yes, it doesn't take as many risks as before and that's a good thing considering their jokes were bordering on offense rather than dirty humor.
One of the show's most vomit-inducing scenes for me was when the Griffins take care of a disabled horse. I thought I was done with the show but fortunately the episodes that followed managed to keep me hooked.
There are things to miss about the show, one of them being the trending topics that would be covered in a cutaway. It takes you away from the story for a bit but it was the kind of respite that was needed and was hilarious.
After that, any time an incident took place, it would always be "how would Family Guy mock it?"
Sadly, the show went on a safer route and while the humor was there, it was mostly a miss.
And then there was the Meg-bashing. Perhaps Mila Kunis, the actress who voices the show, was busy or perhaps she doesn't want to contribute to the fictional abuse bestowed upon a character. Whatever the reason, it seems we don't even see the character on screen anymore.
The past few seasons has a running gag wherein the family was trying to get an Emmy nomination. Its competitors have received it, so why not their show? Should they introduce more drama? Create poignant stories?
Thankfully, Family Guy gave up on that and have resumed being exactly what they are, a family of misfits, flawed people whose antics cause humor in their lives.
Season 21 may have started a little weak, but there have been some strong episodes like the first one OSCARS GUY in which three Oscar-winning movies are enacted by the cast.
Then there was the shocking THE MUNCHURIAN CANDIDATE. Anyone who saw it will know exactly why it was shocking.
Then there's LOVE STORY GUY, another episode which parodies romantic movies in the form of characters narrating their first love stories. Maybe the episode would have worked better around Valentine's Day?
Family Guy is one of those shows that breaks into the humdrum with hilarious escapades and characters that may just be too real.
It's one of those shows you can't help but watch.
