Being a minimalist may seem like more trouble than it is worth. You'll ask yourself: Do I really have to throw everything out?
Can I live with limited stuff? How do I even go about it?
Minimalism may seem like you will have to deprive yourself of most things, but it is actually about keeping what is important and minimising stress.
Here are the TOP 10 Reasons to Embrace the Minimalistoc Life
1) Less Cleaning
With less stuff comes less cleaning. No more clutter, no more hidden piles of laundry you will get to "soon." If you have less furniture, then you have less space to pile up laundry, dirty dishes, etc.
If you get rid of all the extra things you haven't used in almost a decade, you will find your cupboards and wardrobe is actually spacious. You will have fewer things to clean and maintain as well.
2) You know what you have
Do you have extra forks? Do you have a ruler? A drill and a hammer? But where did you keep all the screws?
Now that you have organised and discarded all the unnecessary stuff in your house, you have also created a simple inventory of all the things you own.
Now, not only do you know what you have but also where it is. No more scrambling around the house, searching for things that must be around somewhere. Now you know you have kept it inside a drawer, safe and sound.
3) No more Re-purposing extra stuff
The more stuff you have, the more inclined you are to indulge in DIY projects.
You don't have a watering can for your plants? How about making one with the ten toilet rolls you saved, and that bottom of the water bottles you have been hoarding for five years now.
Eventually, these DIY projects fail and cause you distress. Or they work out, and you quickly find yourself running out of space for them.
4) Less potential of horror scenarios.
You may be sleeping soundly when you wake up in the middle of the night and hear a twinkling sound. Or a hoarse sound.
Turns out it's the wind chimes you forgot to bring in from outside your garden. Or that really weird voice is the sound of a toy you have kept ever since you were a kid. That toy got accidentally on and is running out of battery.
Or there is a box under your bed with creepy photos that has been giving you nightmares, and you didn't realize it that you were subconsciously seeing them right before you fell asleep.
You would not have these creepy scenarios if you get rid of all the things you have been hoarding. Any old stuff that has been disturbing you mentally is not worth keeping.
Get rid of it before a demon possesses your personal possessions.
5) No more junk drawers
Every house has one; a drawer where there is so much stuff that you never really know what is exactly in it.
Anytime something is lost, you just know it is in that drawer, but it takes hours of rummaging before you pull it out.
The day you decide to become minimalistic, you no longer have junk drawers! There is no single drawer in your home that can't be opened easily.
Everything opens easily. Nothing is getting stuck, and the best part is that all your stuff is visible.
No more wondering where your stuff is. It's right there in that bottom drawer where you keep miscellaneous things.
6) No more wasting time on what to wear
Now that you have gotten rid of that shirt you haven't worn in three years or that outfit you were saving for a special occasion that never happened, you have more space in your wardrobe.
When you start getting rid of things, you begin to notice all the things you have been hoarding, especially your favourite shirt that has a huge tear in it, but you were going to repair it and wear it. Now, the tear is worse and beyond repair.
The more you get rid of old and torn clothes, the more space your wardrobe has and the more you know exactly what you have to wear.
So the next time there is an impromptu event, you know exactly what is there in your wardrobe and how you can dress yourself up.
7) Less chance of tripping over stuff
With so much stuff comes more messy rooms. The problem with messes is that with so much stuff lying about, sooner or later, you are bound to trip on something, or worse, someone else will and blame you for it.
With less mess and more space, there is less risk of you breaking your bones!
Focus on not breaking your bones and get rid of anything that will make you fall.
8) An empty house is a good studio
Have you ever wanted to be a singer but were told you couldn't sing well?
Now it is time to go solo and get your practice in your own recording studio!
Okay, not exactly a recording studio, but an almost empty house, sparsely furnished, that has great acoustics.
So get singing and get a sense of what it would be like to live the life of a singer.
9) Stress-free travel packing
Do you suddenly have to travel and don't know what to pack?
That's because you have too much stuff to sift through.
If you adopt the lifestyle of a minimalist, then you no longer have to worry about what to pack. You know exactly which clothes you own and which need to go into your bag.
10) No chance of being robbed.
The best part about not having a lot of stuff is that you don't have to worry much about being robbed.
Imagine a robber enters your home. All he's going to see is an empty house with one cutlery set, one plate, and one glass.
The robber might actually feel sorry for you as they leave.
Of course, if you have any valuables, they should be properly secured in a locker.
But see, the advantages of being minimalistic are that you have less chance of being robbed.
The less stress you have, the better life you lead, right?
Of course, always be careful what you throw away. The last thing you want to do is discard something valuable and then regret it.
Be mindful while being minimalistic.
