Life can be fleeting and it can be hard. Life is made up of several experiences and builds character that makes us distinctive. We are a product of our past and our experiences. More than that it is how we react to those situations in our life that shapes us.
In order to live wholesome lives, we need to pay attention to all the little things that we often take for granted. The last thing you would want is to live a life full of regrets.
Here are the Top 10 things you need to start paying to attention to:
1. Your health
If you have your health, you have everything. That’s how the old saying goes anyway. But it is true. If you give your health prominence, you will be able to accomplish all the goals you have set yourself for.
Everyone eventually ends up with some health issue or another but taking care of yourself after you are diagnosed with an ailment becomes even more important.
If you take a few minutes in a day to do some activity, not only will you be giving yourself a much needed break but you will also be stretching those muscles and pumping your blood.
2. Your family
Life passes in a blink of an eye and before you know it, you have lost someone and left wondering if perhaps you could have spent more time with them.
Make some time during the day to spend special moments with your family. And if you have pets, remember to take care of them too.
3. Your friends
Sometimes friends are more like family to you. They are the ones who stand up for you and keep all your secrets. They are the ones with whom you can be yourself with.
It goes without saying that you absolutely need to pay attention to them too. They have always been there for you. You should be making an effort to stay in touch with them.
4. Your career
As kids, we dreamed and we expected to reach great heights. While luck plays an important factor on how much a person eventually achieves in their life, having a goal keeps us motivated.
Building a career is all about you. It is about how much time you have given to it and how much you have grown because of it. Giving yourself time to learn new skills is always a productive way of spending time.
Your job and your career is part of your identity so make sure you give it attention and nurture it.
5. Your mental health
Everyone has ups and downs. Yes, everyone.
We may find ourselves pushed into a corner sometimes or we may find out that the people we trusted the most have betrayed us. It is normal to feel hurt but it isn’t okay to push yourself to the very edge because of it.
Seek help if you must. Cut out toxic people from your life. Do whatever it takes to give yourself a break rather than forcing yourself to stay in a toxic situation.
It takes time and a lot of help from the right people to finally feel normal again but you do recover even from the worst of situations.
Your mental health is important and you need to take as many breaks as you want to heal and make yourself happy again. At that point, it shouldn’t matter what other people think about you. What matters is you and you alone.
6. Your diet
Did you eat today? Did you remember to eat a balanced diet and not all sugary and salty foods?
While snacks and fast food items are more compelling and easier to eat, they may not necessarily be healthy. Remember to have at least one balanced meal in a day, if you lead a very busy lifestyle.
A good diet will give you the energy to accomplish all tasks you have set out for the day. You may no longer have to rely on caffeine or energy drinks to get through the day if you eat foods that provide you long lasting energy naturally.
7. Your looks
We are all made to look differently and the media and social media has already decided on the beauty standards for us.
All of us are distinct and unique in our own way and we need to accept our looks for what they are.
That doesn’t mean that you don’t keep yourself well-groomed. Make sure your hair, skin and nails are clean. When meeting people from work, always present your most professional side by wearing proper and clean clothes.
Taking care of your looks is a good boost to your confidence so remember to pay attention to yourself.
8. Your environment
You may have had a busy day and all you want to do is rest now. But your house is filthy.
It is important to keep your house clean to not only invite positive vibes but to ensure you don’t fall sick because of all the germs and bacteria growing on the dishes you haven’t washed in days.
The same goes for your workspace. Keep it clean and organized and you should have no problems completing your work efficiently and on time.
It is also the responsible thing to do to keep your city clean, so make sure you aren't the one littering about. If you can't find a trash can nearby, refrain from throwing it on the streets. If possible, carry the trash with you until you find a trash can or dispose it of in your home.
9. Your budget
While shopping may almost become addictive, learn to keep a budget so you don’t overspend and find yourself in debt. Always make sure you have enough for your rent, electricity and water, and food, before you go splurging.
It is your hard earned money and you should be able to spend it how you want but a roof over your head is also important.
10. Your behavior
You may not realize it until someone tells you how your behavior is. People are always watching and the people you interact with will either stay close or distance themselves from you.
That’s how important behavior is. How we react to situations, whether we keep our calm or lose our temper. Whether we show patience or turn rude. If we decide to help someone or ignore an obvious cry for help.
All of it reflects on our behavior.
We may not even realize it but we may have hurt someone with our words or behavior. Those things may not be obvious to us at first but later, we learn, sometimes the hard way, how important it was to behave and be compassionate.
Our behavior is what defines us too. Isn’t it better to have good behavior?
