What’s The Point of Comparing Couples to Pets?

Opposites attract. Or they used to until the 2020s when suddenly, pointing out that couples are like…pets?

So instead of saying that the couple has opposite personalities or introverts and extroverts, they instead have Golden Retriever energy and Black Cat energy.

Dogs and cats, literally.

While the two creatures may not necessarily be friends in the animal world, humans insist that they be paired with each other so that they can form metaphors and use them as examples to describe people.

Apparently people are not cute  but describing them as animals makes them more acceptable?

Golden Retrievers are known to be energetic and friendly. They are excitable and sociable as well.

Black Cats on the other hand, exude style and grace. They are almost secretive and do not talk as much.

So yes, basically extroverts and introverts but of course, as per online discussions, those terms have become archaic and not seen as accurate descriptions of personalities. There is even a new term coined for people with both personalities: Ambivert. It may have been around for a long time but it sure is in the spotlight now.

But since we must use metaphors, will ambiverts be equivalent to a rabbit or fox? Or maybe even a raccoon.

Imagine having to describe someone who has raccoon energy and people are bound to be annoyed because they will think you are referring to their eating habits. Are you saying they eat trashy food? How dare you!

So, what is the point of comparing couples to animals?

Is it because we are disappointed in other human beings to the point we never use anyone as an example anymore.

It’s no longer about growing up as your favorite politician, actor or athlete. It’s about growing up to have a fox energy? Which means you grow up to be shrewd and cunning.

Or striving to be a black cat. Be mysterious. Keep to yourself. Stare down at people.

It won’t be long before people begin to add more animals to compare human beings.

Being called an orangutan may be praise. A sloth may be used to describe being mindful about rest. Calling someone a monkey would mean being cheeky but also loyal to family.

Someone called you an elephant? It doesn’t mean you are overeating. You have a good memory. And love peanuts.

If comparing people to animals makes us respect other creatures, then why not continue the tradition?
