What's The Point of AI Putting People in Bikinis
While AI is still struggling to be our perfect assistant, here comes another flaw that is receiving plenty of flak: putting people in bikinis without their consent.
AI tools are programmed to reply to prompts. They strive to get their responses accurate and analyze the query carefully.
It's a struggle for them, really. The poor things are still learning what sarcasm is and understand that you don't want a thesis paper on which beverage will best hydrate you.
Brevity is not their strong suit, and they are polite even as you are losing your control over putting across that one query that will get the response the user is looking for.
They know one thing: to reply to the user no matter what. They want an image? Alright, AI will create one for you. Edit images? AI will do it in seconds.
Unfortunately, they do not have a sense of ethics and morality yet. They are programmed to restrict replies to most damaging and harmful prompts, but there's nothing wrong with bikinis, is there?
It's what most women wear when they go for a swim. They come in various sizes and colors.
AI sees nothing wrong with that. It sees an image, sees a prompt, and processes it immediately.
AI doesn't conduct an investigation or look for consent.
Anyone can take anyone else's photo from their social media and prompt AI to put them in the tiniest bikini.
AI will do it within seconds, eager to please the user, and inadvertently causing harm to someone else's image.
The altered image is then floated around social media and used to harass unsuspecting victims.
AI has become an aide to a crime they didn't even know they were committing.
So, what's the point of AI being used to put people in bikinis.
It sure makes for a fun prank, if it is within friends and done privately. And the friend is okay with that kind of sense of humor.
But expecting someone else to be fine with a stranger altering their images using AI? Of course, that's not okay.
Imagine putting up your vacation photos to share with your social media family only to have a stranger alter those photos and put everyone in an indecent bikini.
While posting on social media often means you've given up your privacy rights, it doesn't mean everyone has consented to have their images altered.
But is AI to blame for this? They're doing their job, trying their best to entertain and assist the user.
The fault lies with those users who think it's funny to tamper with someone else's photos. To malign their image and to show them in an indecent light.
AI is a tool, and in the wrong hands, it has become a weapon to degrade and humiliate.
If the future is about upgrading AI, when do humans get an update on morality?
