What's The Point of Mocking People In Crisis?

The world may be falling apart, but there’s always that one group of people who have put themselves on a pedestal. They look down on everyone and pass judgment, and of course, their opinions matter. They are the critics no one wants to hire and opinionated to the point that even their families avoid them.

But they are omnipresent when any crisis hits any country. They are certain that the world is awaiting their opinions on the matter. And so we, the unsuspecting scrollers, are subjected to a barrage of posts and memes mocking people who are stranded and who are living in constant fear.

They do not deserve empathy, of course.

According to those who have dubbed them as Masters of World Views, those who left their country to live abroad do not deserve sympathy.

Or if they even went on vacation and are now trapped in circumstances beyond their control, well, they deserve what is happening to them. Who told them to vacation in any other country apart from the one they live in?

Those who are stranded are mocked relentlessly, called cowards for wanting to return to their home countries. Patriotism is judged, their living conditions are ridiculed, and their worries are dismissed.

Because, of course, they left their situations in their home countries to live abroad in luxury.

That is what the Masters of World Views think anyway. If any person has been left to live in another country, they are living in luxury because they are earning in a different currency. Their lives are so much easier than those who didn’t get the opportunity to travel out of their home countries.

People who live abroad wake up every morning in their comfortable bed, walk outside to a random tree, and collect cash hanging from the branches. The only problem the expats face is deciding where to spend the huge wad of cash they collected today. Expensive restaurants? Waterparks? Or go on a cruise?

Does it ever occur to these Masters of World Views that there are bills to pay in every country? Who do you think is paying for their rent and electricity bill? The money they earn after putting in a lot of hard work goes into paying bills, and if they have family at home, it is sent to them as well.

Most expats survive on the bare minimum, barely scraping through every month. Their families back home are sometimes sympathetic to their plight and hard work, but there are some who want them to continue in barely livable conditions just so that they can continue sending money back home.

But no one talks about that, do they? The expats don’t form a club and attack all those who expect them to push through deplorable situations to send them money. They endure hardships, eat less, suffer through a hard day all alone, away from their loved ones.

Then disaster hits the country, and they decide to return home, only to be judged mercilessly by people from their country.

So…what’s the point of mocking people in a crisis?

There isn’t one. It’s just noise made by people who confuse cruelty with patriotism and opinions with expertise.

If they truly cared about their country, they’d support its people — not just the ones who succeed abroad, but also the ones who struggle there. Mocking someone for wanting to come home doesn’t make you patriotic. It just makes you loud.
