What’s The Point of AI If It Only Writes Tweets?

The world as we know it will be transformed by AI. We will be traveling to space in no time. We will be able to work faster, and efficiently. We will be able to lead better lives, healthier and wiser. Because we have AI and our lives are forever transformed.

Except, we are not really using AI for its intended purpose, are we?

But we are using it to transform our images so we look like cartoon characters, or in the latest trending art style.

Worse, we are using it to interact with humans. And said humans on the other end are also using AI to reply. So…all we have managed to accomplish is get two AI to talk to each other. While we, humans, can’t bear to write a single line text to each other.

While we got to read profound and enriching literature from past authors, imagine what future generations will read. Years from now, robot archaeologists will discover writings from our times. It will be just as generic, mundane and uninspiring as one can imagine.

All those beloved classic tales that have been used to inspire novels and movies will be long forgotten. Instead, we will have AI writing books and movies that will never connect with human emotion.

The dialogues, especially, will be atrocious. And if a human is not sitting down and wearing an editor’s hat imagine all the errors that will pass through.

One moment it will be about something poignant, like maybe a heartfelt confession, in the next, the AI character will be reminding the other character to upload their grocery list.

And most of the sentences will contain the word “remember”. It is their primary prompt after all.

But lets get back to the emails and tweets. By now the use of AI is evident in every email being. They do follow the same pattern after all, and the controversial em dash punctuation. If the sender isn’t careful enough, they forget to remove the square brackets that are inserted so that you can contribute something to the email, like at least put your name in.

The social media posts are rarely a unique voice that informs and motivates. It’s something AI generated that is SEO friendly and gets more people to see it resulting in an increase of followers.

Someone who barely knows how to string two sentences together, is suddenly the most popular philosopher who doesn’t give credit to AI for writing for them.

So…what is the point of AI if we are using them for tweets?

AI is a tool that helps us research and perform actions using skills not everyone possesses.

But should they replace common human interaction like emails and tweets? Can we as humans at least do that much to retain our uniqueness. Or are we so concerned about proper grammar usage and structure that we are ready to sacrifice our own voice?
