MY POINT IS...Golden Should Win A Grammy!
"I'm done hiding, now I'm shining, like I'm born to be...."
The song Golden from Kpop Demon Hunters has received 3 Grammy nominations!
It's not much of a surprise, considering the single has spent several weeks on the top of the charts since its release in July 2025.
KPop Demon Hunters is the not-so-surprise hit of this year, well-received by critics and audience of all ages.
Its story and soundtrack resonated with the audience, making it one of the top movies of Netflix for several weeks. In fact, it is still in the Top 10 list on Netflix, making it the most watched movie of all time.
The movie boasts of a clever and peppy soundtrack, easily integrating into the movie without breaking the pace.
Admittedly, Golden was not my favorite song from the movie. I liked the musical arrangement and beats of Your Idol. It can be very much labeled as a horror song based on the ominous lyrics and the video.
It took me some time to relate to Golden, but by that time, it had cemented in my mind, and I was either humming or singing it without even realizing it.
More than once, I had an urge to break out into song in a public place. Thankfully, I did not.
The placement of the song comes at the most pivotal moment in the movie. Rumi wants to form the Golden honmoon, defeat the demons, and keep them from entering their world forever.
But she's starting to lose her voice. Her dark secret, that she is part Demon, is sabotaging her mission.
Through this song, she hopes to finally rid herself of her patterns that she is ashamed of and become the girl she is meant to be.
That is why the song Golden is so powerful. It's not only about the Golden Honmoon, but Rumi's subsequent freedom from being a demon when she succeeds.
She won't have to hide anymore. She won't have to be ashamed anymore.
Of course, later in the movie, she learns a painful lesson about accepting herself for who and what she is, no matter how hard it is.
But Golden is not only for Rumi. It is for us.
We often have to hide our true selves from the world. Sometimes, it's because we are told that our flaws are something we need to be ashamed of. Or we are made to believe we are not successful or deserve to be happy because we haven't followed a checklist.
We hide because we are told we are not enough. Because we won't be accepted for our true self. Because we are lacking and no one will love us for who we are and what we don't have.
"Golden" tells us to break free from these chains. It's about letting go of fears and stopping the lies that limits you from being who you are meant to be.
It's one of those songs that will always play in our minds and most important, in our hearts.
But is it going to win the ultimate prize: a Grammy?
Probably not.
But it doesn't matter. Golden will always have a place in my Playlist. It will always be one of those songs I want to sing loudly in public even though I clearly don't have the voice for it.
After all, I'm done hiding.
