What is the Point? -- That Space Travel Thing
Why did six wealthy women go to space?
Was it to promote space tourism? A new album or product? To flaunt their wealth? Or to actually create awareness of gender equality and inclusion of women in STEM?
While the purpose of this space "mission" was lost once these women landed back in Earth, what they did manage to achieve was harsh criticism for their 11 minute stunt.
I want to believe that there was a reason these women decided to undertake this trip into space. It couldn't only be to sing songs, and pay tribute to loved ones.
There has to be a better purpose for wasting vast resources to enter space and return to Earth and behave like heroes.
Nevertheless, what is the point of the backlash.
Say what you want, this eleven minute mission has promoted space tourism. It has proved that if you have money to spend, then even space isn't out of reach. You don't need to work hard to get into space programs to be able to go to space. Immense wealth and the desire to flaunt it can get you right out of Earth like some amusement park ride.
Forget roller coasters. Going out in space, even for a few minutes, will be the next attraction everyone wants in on.
If Katy Perry can do it, so can anyone with money, right?
