Have you ever looked at something and thought, "Why is this still a thing?" Iām talking about the baffling, outdated, or downright annoying things that refuse to disappearālike fax machines, mile-long receipts, and the dreaded āReply Allā email chain.
We live in an age of AI, self-driving cars, and space tourism, yet somehow, weāre still dealing with broken shopping cart wheels and streaming services that charge extra but still show ads. Itās time to call out these relics of frustration and ask the big question: Seriously, why is this still a thing?
1) Non-skip Intro
I've already watched the intro once and know and appreciate the cast and crew that worked on the show.
But the last episode ended on a cliffhanger, and I really want to know what happens next!
Not all streaming services have the skip intro button, and it can get annoying. I have to watch the two-minute intro before the episode finally starts.
Besides, I'm on episode nine and know the theme music by heart and have memorized the entire cast and crew by now.
2) Unnecessary Password Rules
While some apps and websites allow you to log in with your social media accounts, some of them still require you to set an exclusive password for using their app.
It's always use a lowercase, uppercase, special character, number, emoji, etc.
When you do come up with a unique password, you know it is not only hard to guess but also hard to remember. You are then prompted that the password doesn't have enough characters.
Just what do they expect from us!
3) Backstories on recipe blogs
I want to know how to make an easy two-minute dish, but I definitely don't want to learn the history behind creating that recipe.
If the chef does want to talk about it, can it be much later in the article? At the end of the recipe and cooking tips, maybe?
4) Pockets in Women's Pants
Women do not have it all. We do not have big enough pockets to stuff a coin, even.
While fashion designers purposely make the pockets smaller or omit them altogether because they may be making women's hips look larger, can women still have some decent pockets?
Or maybe small pockets are a ruse to get women to buy handbags...
5) Customer Service Phone Menu
You're trying to reach for help urgently. The website claims that customer service is seven days a week and twenty-four hours a day.
But you call the toll-free number and have to pay attention to the extensive phone menu. One wrong button, and you are back to square one.
It's like playing a high-pressure memory game or Simon says.
When you are finally forwarded to speak to a human, you have to wait for five minutes before being told you are sixth in line and that all other agents are busy.
6) Celebrity Apology Videos
A celebrity or influencer goofs up, and the next video is always the dreaded apology video.
Except it's barely an apology. The celebrity/influencer sits in a kitchen to show how relatable they are and begin with "If you were offended..."
See? It's your fault. Their joke was fire. You're the idiot who didn't hear it and was offended instead. You're the problem. Not them.
7) Plastic Clamshell Packaging
Why are some things behind those awful plastic packaging that take scissors and knives to pry open?
Especially if it is a new pair of scissors?
What are they protecting? And why does it require a sacrifice of your blood as you open it?
Chances are pretty good that you cut yourself on the sharp edges.
8) People who stand up after the Plane Lands
Yes! The pilot has done a commendable job and brought us safely to our destination. But that doesn't mean one needs to show your impatience for getting off the plane.
Yet, you will know some people get up before the lights have even come on.
What's the point of doing that? Do they think if they get off fast, their luggage will arrive on time as well?
9) Movie trailers that show the whole plot
Gone are the days when trailers would tease the plot of the movie. Nowadays, you'll find the entire plot in trailers along with surprising twists.
How's that supposed to keep the intrigue or even get people interested in watching the movie in theaters?
10) Stickers that won't peel off quickly
This is especially aggravating when they are on utensils. And that, too, right on the surface you're going to cook.
It's hard to come off, and if you leave them on, they burn when the heat comes on.
Worse is when the price tags refuse to come off items you want to give as gifts and don't want the receiver to know you got them at a discount store.
