What’s The Point of Tapping On Every Single Object?

Once upon a time, people used ASMR videos to find calm and to lull themselves to peaceful sleep. With so much going on around in the world and in their lives, they desperately sought a helpful mechanism that would minimize the anxiety they felt.

The ASMR videos were helping people all around the world relax and breathe. The gentle sounds of whispering, crinkling or squishing sounds would soothe many which is why these videos gained popularity.

Unfortunately when things become too popular, a lot of people start doing it to, you know, follow trends and gain more viewers. And then what happens to the one thing that was designed to soothe our nerves? You guessed it! ASMR videos have now moved on to become annoying.

Not all of them. Luckily, there are a few creators out there who still value the tradition and try to invoke a calm response in their viewers. While others have resorted to turing this into a travesty.

Seriously, what is with the overly-painted talons tapping loudly on literally every surface?

It’s not rhythmic. It’s not inducing calm. It’s annoying.

The focus is not on trying to get a response. It is to show how decorative their nails are or how much of a ruckus it makes when tapping on tables, and glass, and wood.

The nail-tapping on every surface has gotten out of hand. Videos are being generated for opening boxes containing toys. Or make up bags. Or blind bags, the new gimmick to use as party favors.

Worse, it is being used on food containers.

These videos don’t even begin with a person’s hands tapping gently. No, we get to see the content creator in full make-up, removing food containers from a bag, tapping their nails on every lid, disposable cutlery, and even the reusable bag. Since food is famously eaten in cars for these videos, every inch of the car gets tapped on.

At this point you aren’t soothed. You want to scream at them to just open their food containers and eat already. But then realization hits: why do you want to watch a person gobble food in full close up?

And now you feel bad, and turn off the video without receiving the tranquility you expected when clicking on the ASMR video. You’re still rattled, unable to sleep, but now wondering where do people even get those long, decorative nails from and how do they perform their basic routine with those nails.

How do they bathe, eat, use the toilet, or cook with those giant nails. Do they take them off or do they get ruined if you do.

And now it’s all about the nails and not about feeling relaxed.

So, what is the point of these nail-tapping videos when all they do is distract you from the real purpose? Why must every surface be tapped? Is it to increase the length of the video or to actually be annoying?

How about we leave the ASMR videos to people who know what they are doing instead?
